Small roll-off dumpster on gravel

Heavy debris

Concrete and Dirt Dumpster Rental

Concrete, dirt, brick and sand go in a 10-yard or 15-yard dumpster, loaded no higher than halfway up the walls. Clean loads of one material qualify for clean-fill pricing. Concrete weighs about 2 tons per cubic yard, so weight fills the box before space does.

Which dumpster sizes take concrete and dirt?

Concrete, dirt, brick and sand go only in our 10-yard and 15-yard dumpsters, and only up to the halfway line on the walls. Highway legal weight limits set that rule. Clean, unmixed loads of a single material qualify for clean-fill pricing; call for that quote.

How much does concrete weigh in a dumpster?

Solid concrete typically weighs about 4,000 lb per cubic yard, about 2 tons. Dirt, brick and sand are also dense, and wet dirt weighs more than dry. Heavy debris reaches the weight limit long before the dumpster looks full, which is why the fill line sits at halfway.

Solid volume before breaking, at a typical 4,000 lb per cubic yard. Broken concrete takes more space.

Weight basis: typical value for normal-weight concrete, about 145 to 150 lb per cubic foot of solid slab.

What counts as a clean load?

A clean load is one material only: concrete only, or dirt only, with no trash, wood, roots or bags mixed in. Clean loads qualify for clean-fill pricing. A mixed load is billed as regular debris by weight at $75 per ton over the included tons.

Where should a heavy-debris dumpster go?

A heavy-debris dumpster belongs on concrete or asphalt, never on soft lawn or fresh flatwork, because a loaded box can sink. Our drivers lay boards under the rails. Keep it clear of septic lids and sprinkler heads, and away from the slab you are breaking.

What happens if the dumpster is filled past the line?

A heavy-debris dumpster filled past the halfway line, or any dumpster above its rim, can't legally travel. Texas law requires loads to be secured. The driver can't haul it, a $125 dry-run fee applies, and the extra must come out before pickup.

Law: Texas Transportation Code §725.021.

Questions renters ask

Can I mix dirt and concrete in one dumpster?

Dirt and concrete can share a 10 or 15-yard dumpster, but a mixed load loses clean-fill pricing. Keep one material per dumpster to get the clean-fill quote. Either way, load no higher than halfway.

How much concrete fits in a 10-yard dumpster?

A 10-yard dumpster loaded halfway holds about 5 cubic yards of broken concrete. Solid concrete weighs about 4,000 lb per cubic yard, so a small patio fills it by weight before it looks full. Call with your slab size for a clean-fill quote.

Can I put rebar-reinforced concrete in the dumpster?

Concrete with rebar or wire mesh goes in a heavy-debris dumpster. Tell us when you book, because some clean-fill pricing depends on it. Cut long rebar ends flush so the load lies flat.

Can I put rocks and sod in a dirt dumpster?

Rocks and sod go in a 10 or 15-yard dumpster, loaded halfway. Sod with roots and grass is no longer a clean dirt load, so it is billed as regular debris by weight.
